GELORA
Jiwa rasa gelora
Kasih pada teruna
Bukan kerna intan permata
Kerna budi bahasa
Kasih bukan paksaan
Sayang bukan mainan
Jiwa dan raga jadi taruhan
Ooooo pujaan
Rinduku padamu
Kekanda idamanku
Kekasih dikaulah
Oh! adinda puspitaku
Murni sungguh impian
Indah nian harapan
Jika tercipta taman kencana
Ooooo bahagia
Rinduku padamu
Kekanda idamanku
Kekasih dikaulah
Oh! adinda puspitaku
Murni sungguh impian
Indah nian harapan
Jika tercipta taman kencana
Ooooo bahagia

about
Close to 56 years after the original track “Gelora” was recorded by Malaysian national icons P. Ramlee & Saloma for the film ‘Seniman Bujang Lapok’, SEAN GHAZI has released a re-imagining of the well-loved song, featuring fellow Malaysian IDA MARIANA, along with a brand new video directed by Sean’s brother Tate Mario Ghazi.
The music was recorded in the Portland, Oregon, USA, with vocals recorded in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
The track features a new ‘fever-esque’ arrangement featuring only four musicians on guitar (David Langenes), bass (Mike Schmitt), percussion (Don Henson) and Hammond organ (Jeff Simpson who also engineered the Portland sessions). The experiment resulted in a clean, crisp but edgy version of the song, capturing the essence of Malay pop from the yesteryears, with inspiration from 60s vintage jazz.
Sean revealed that the underlying reason for releasing ‘Gelora’ was also to bring the sounds of vintage Malaysian music to a global audience, seeing the need to play a role in keeping some of the country’s musical heritage alive. Long time collaborator and esteemed Malaysian sound engineer Peter Chong recorded the KL vocal sessions and put the final touches on the track.
